New Firefighters Complete Orientation Training

On February 9, 2024, twelve new Firefighters successfully completed three 50-hour grueling weeks of Orientation Training that consisted of daily physical fitness training, policy and procedure training, firefighting skills training, and team building skills training.

The Department appreciates the participation of Harris County ESD 12 Officers, Engineers (Drivers), and Firefighters for their efforts and dedication to provide the new Firefighters with realistic and challenging training.

The Department is proud of the new Firefighter efforts and commitment to be part of the “Best of the Best” ISO Class 1 Fire Department.

Lucie “The Stop-Drop-Roll Dalmatian” Makes A Suprise Visit to Sam Houston Elementary School

On Friday February 9, 2024, Lucie the “Stop Drop and Roll Dalmatian and Fire Chief Edward Russell made a surprise visit to GPISD Sam Houston Elementary School. Lucie helped the Engine 24 crew (Captain Brian Bunnell, Captain Lavell Warren, Engineer Eric Jacot, Firefighter Daelon Johnson and Firefighter Gabriela Ramos present multiple Fire Safety Education programs to students and instructors.

Twelve New Firefighters Complete Live Fire Training

Harris County Fire Mashal’s Office Fire Training Center, Lieutenant Jason Barnes (far right end of photo) – welcomes Harris County ESD 12 Fire Department’s, twelve new Firefighters, one existing Firefighter, one Engineer (Driver), three Captains and three District Chiefs to the Fire Training Center

On Thursday February 8, 2024, twelve new Firefighters successfully completed their live fire training scenarios at the Harris County Fire Marshals Office Fire Training Center. The twelve new Firefighters attended two full days of live fire training during their 3-week Orientation Training Program.

The years of cooperative partnering between Harris County ESD 12 Fire Department and the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office for use of the Training Center, continues to strengthen the ability to provide the Department quality Firefighters.

Department Welcomes Twelve New Firefighters

Twelve new Firefighters began the Department’s 3-week orientation training program on January 22, 2024. The Program covers Department policies, procedures, repetitive firefighter skill applications, and live fire training. The new Firefighters will be assigned to a shift beginning on February 13, 2024.

Harris County ESD 12 Commissioner Larry Helgesen Retires

Commissioner Larry Helgesen, after serving Harris County ESD 12 from December 2, 2015, to October 17, 2023, has retired. Commissioner Helgesen served as Secretary during his almost 8-year tenure with Harris County ESD 12. Commissioner received one Official Resolution from Harris County ESD 12 and a second Resolution from the Commissioners.

RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION

 WHEREAS, Larry Helgesen became a Commissioner of Harris County Emergency Services District No. 12 on December 2, 2014 and has served as a Commissioner for the District until October 17, 2023; and

WHEREAS, during Mr. Helgesen’s tenure as a Commissioner of the District, the District confronted enumerable challenges in fostering fire suppression and protection services in the District; and

WHEREAS, throughout his service as a Commissioner of the District, Mr. Helgesen exercised superior business judgment in leading the Board in response to issues regarding the operation of the District; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Helgesen’s service and commitment to the community contributed immeasurably.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of Harris County Emergency Services District No. 12 as follows:

The Board of Commissioners commends Larry Helgesen for his personal contributions while serving as a Commissioner of the District and recognizes that he has set an impressive, high standard of service and commitment, both for persons presently on the Board and for all who may serve in the future; and

The Board hereby recognizes Larry Helgesen as an exemplary commissioner and outstanding citizen of the State of Texas, and the Board extends its sincere thanks and congratulations for a job well done.

Firefighters Provide Fire Watch for Freightliner Dealership Grand Opening Event

 

On October 13, 2023, Ladder 24 crew members provided fire watch duties for the new Freightliner Dealership Grand Opening Event. The event introduced the Dealership’s new facility and services. The Freightliner hosted event provided a headline band, carnival rides, food services and Freightliner hospitality.

Newly Promoted Captain and New Employees Complete Training

A newly promoted Captain; a new Engineer/Driver and three new Firefighters completed an 80-hour Orientation Training Program on September 21, 2023. The Orientation Training Program included Firefighter Skills Training at Station 24; two days of Live Fire Training at the Deer Park Fire Training Field; and Firefighting Ventilation Training at the Channelview Station 3 Training Center.

Texarkana Building Fire

Texarkana Building Fire

On September 24, 2023, Harris County ESD 12 Fire Department District 14, Engine 24, and Ladder 24 responded to a daytime building fire on Texarkana Street near Freeport Street. Automatic mutual aid assistance was received from Channelview Fire Department and Sheldon Community Fire Department.

Engineer/Driver Paul Diaz Promoted to Captain

Engineer/Driver Paul Diaz, after competitive testing, interview, and successful completion of Captain Orientation Training, has been promoted to Captain. Captain Diaz has been assigned to B-Shift, Engine 24.
